Boeing 747-8
Lufthansa’s stretched jumbo
The first version of the Boeing 747 quickly acquired the nickname “jumbo” because of its awesomely gigantic dimensions. The new 747-8 has been stretched to make it 5.6 meters longer than its immediate predecessor, the 747-400. That qualifies it for the title of the world’s longest passenger aircraft. It has seating accommodation for 362 passengers – but still consumes significantly less fuel per passenger than the 747-400. This is made possible by its new General Electric engines and its new, more efficient wing design.
