The iconic L-1649A was built only 44 times. The DBLS is currently putting together a single original from to models purchased in 2007
The iconic L-1649A propeller plane was conceived by aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. Built by Lockheed, but only 44 times, it served from 1958 until 1962, when the jet engine arrived. Fortunately, the DLBS Foundation (Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin Stiftung) purchased two models in 2007 from which it is currently putting together a single original, so very soon, the Lufthansa Super Star will take to the air again.
