Lush green lung
Singapore is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. The designers at WOHA are enhancing quality of life in the megacity by planting vertical gardens.

Trees sometimes really do grow as high as the sky: In the city-state of Singapore, they grow alongside climbers and hanging plants on four stories of the Parkroyal hotel on Pickering, on the edge of Chinatown. They form a roughly 15 000-square-meter green area that simultaneously cools the 89-meter-tall building and cuts air conditioning costs. Rain collected on the roof is used to water this useful jungle, which helps Singapore breathe, as does a new law introduced in 2018 which limits the number of new car registrations.
