Sarah Akhtar, 33,

warehousing clerk

has been working at Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services (LTLS) in Hamburg for a year

“I’m currently processing an incoming shipment, checking the spare parts it contains and registering them in the system. New and over-hauled aircraft components arrive at Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services every few minutes. Our job as logistics specialists is to supply the Lufthansa Technik workshops with spare parts. When an unscheduled repair is necessary, things have to move part-icularly fast so that the aircraft can take off again as soon as possible. That’s why we stock many of the components and order in more when stocks are low. My colleagues and I check small components, too. We open the packages, make sure there’s no damage and compare serial and part numbers with those on the delivery note. What kinds of spare parts do we receive? Lots of screws, washers and bolts, but also electronic equipment, from a simple coffee machine to a complex flight recorder, or black box.”
