… is this? A strange planet amid interstellar mists or maybe a jellyfish from the ocean’s depths? Neither! It’s a photo (part of a fascinating series) of the bottom of a whisky glass.
Photographer Ernie Button loves scotch, and not just in its liquid form. When Button, who hails from Phoenix, Arizona, first held his glass up to the light to examine the dregs at the bottom in 2006, he noticed that they formed a fantastic picture. Fascinated by the unique pattern left by Macallan (above), Glenfiddich and Laphroaig, Button ended up taking several hundred photos in his series Vanishing Spirits: The Dried Remains of Single Malt Scotch – an intoxicating whisky tasting with a difference.
