Tasty teaser
Take a guess: What is the main crop around the small town of Bathurst in the South African province of Eastern Cape? The unmissable building pictured here is a pretty good clue…

The Big Pineapple rises 17 meters into the blue skies over Bathurst. First dreamed up by the local agricultural society in the 1980s and completed in 1991, the metal-and-fiberglass landmark is very probably the largest pineapple-shaped structure in the world. Inside, visitors can browse a three-story museum and learn all about the sweet, tangy crop. Appetite duly whetted, the museum shop on the way out sells a wide range of products and delicious treats made with the juicy, vitamin-packed fruit.
