In very few places can tourists get as close to these candy-pink birds as they can on the Caribbean island of Aruba. Feeding is allowed – with food from the hotel dispenser.

This picture-postcard scene is admittedly pure kitsch – but in a good way! Aruba, the smallest of the ABC islands in the Lesser Antilles, has fine sandy beaches, turquoise waters and a real Caribbean feeling. As if that weren’t enough, there’s a private island belonging to the Renaissance Aruba Resort where you can get up close to flamingos. After an eight-minute ride in water taxi, you can observe these pretty feathered symbols stalking around or napping in between the sunbeds on the beach.
