Strawberry ice cream? A stranded jelly fish? White Pocket on the Paria Plateau in the U.S. state of Arizona conjures up some strange associations.

Last Resort: Blushing bluff

Special destinations often require extra effort, and that’s certainly true of White Pocket, a bizarre rock formation north of Grand Canyon National Park. Even if you join an organized tour rather than braving the soft sand in an offroader on your own, you’ll find hiking over rocky ground at an elevation of 1734 meters in July temperatures averaging 37 degrees Celsius exhausting, to say the least. Happily, your exertions will be rewarded by the stunning natural spectacle awaiting you at journey’s end.
